Community invited to learn about Strategic Plan 2014
District drafting blueprint for next four years

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 28, 2009 – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is inviting parents, students and members of the community to help create Strategic Plan 2014, a blueprint to guide the district’s work through the next four years. CMS is hosting a series of community forums to share information and gather feedback about the draft plan.

College Board data shows decline in participation rate for area schools 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Aug. 26, 2009 – Testing data released by the College Board Aug. 25 showed that average SAT scores in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools rose slightly in 2009 while national and state scores declined. The district’s top performers continued to outscore their state and national peers, scoring 30 points above the nation’s high-fliers and 45 points higher than those in North Carolina.

District opens six new schools, adjusts to transportation changes
 
            CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 25, 2009 – More than 137,000 students and nearly 19,000 staff members went back to school on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools marked the end of the first day of classes with a report to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education at its Aug. 25 meeting.

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 11, 2009 – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education approved the boundaries and feeder patterns for the new Mint Hill high school at its Aug. 11 meeting. CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Aug. 11, 2009 – State budget cuts that are smaller than anticipated, due to a tax increase, will spare Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools an estimated $20.6 million in cuts, the district said Aug. 11. 

Lunch with a Lawyer program kicks off Aug. 10

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Aug. 6, 2009 – This year,  79 CMS eighth-graders will partner with an area lawyer for the fourth annual Lunch with a Lawyer program. A kick-off luncheon will be held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church (3200 Park Road) on Aug. 10 from noon until 1:30 p.m. so students and parents, school administrators and attorney mentors can meet.

State test results show 89.6% of schools make high or expected growth
 
          CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Aug. 6, 2009 – Nearly every school in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools averaged a year’s academic progress or more in the 2008-2009 school year, surpassing a district goal for 2010.
