VOX and the Chancel Choir at St. John's Baptist Church
join forces for a classic Christmas concert
CHARLOTTE, NC... (November 16, 2009) -- Carolina Voices' VOX, with Artistic Director David Tang, will present a unique candlelight Christmas concert in the acoustically beautiful St. John's Baptist Church (300 Hawthorne Lane) on Saturday, December 5 at 8pm. Tickets for the performance are $17.00-$20.00 and can be purchased in advance at 704.374.1564 or online through www.carolinatix.org.
The concert, in collaboration with St. John's Chancel Choir and director Warren Howell, will focus on the serenity of the holidays with classics such as Silent Night, Sweet Little Jesus Boy, O Magnum Mysterium, Appalachian carols like I Wonder as I Wander and more. According to Tang, "A Candlelight Christmas will transform one of Charlotte's loveliest and most elegant architectural and acoustical spaces into a timeless world of glowing lights and spiritual warmth. Audiences will experience the quiet holiness of the first Christmas, in what Carolina Voices hopes will become one of Charlotte's most unique and significant holiday traditions."
Joining VOX and St. John's Chancel Choir will be special guests artists The Charlotte Sacred Harp Singers, tenor Ron Gattis, drummers from the Chris Thompson Cultural Ensemble and Maureen Howell, organist.
VOX is Carolina Voices' most demanding, innovative and eclectic ensemble, performing repertoire of all genres, styles and formats. A collaborative choral venture between Carolina Voices and Central Piedmont Community College, the 24-32-member ensemble has performed with the Charlotte Symphony and Jazz Orchestras, at the Tosco Music Party, with Nu Kids on the Block, Gospel up-and-comer Dennis Reed & G.A.P., Maha Gingrich's Dances of India, Son de Cuba, country legend Kathy Mattea, and over 200 other artists and institutions from a panoply of cultures and artistic disciplines.
